#WednesdayWisdom about Flipgrid from Kristina Holzweiss.
Students share what they have learned during our library genius hour program. It doesn't matter what language they speak, or what their strengths and weaknesses are. Each student has the opportunity to share his or her voice with the world. This year my students are going to participate in the Kindness Rocks project. They will design and paint rocks with positive messages for our 9/11 rock garden. Flipgrid will help to capture our students' reflections.
I am especially proud of our Long Island Students Make a Difference Charity Pitch Fest, where 76 groups of students competed through Flipgrid to pitch their favorite charity live at our SLIME - Students of Long Island Maker Expo. Flipgrid made it easy to curate videos of students from various school districts. On a personal level, I use Flipgrid to record videos of rubber ducks and books that I share in memory of my sister (Ducks4Laryssa).
With Flipgrid my students are empowered to be independent thinkers, creators, and publishers. Flipgrid is a verb, not a noun, in our library. With an authentic Flipgrid audience, my students believe that their voices matter.
There is no right or wrong way to use Flipgrid. Once you begin using it, you will think of other ways beyond the classroom to incorporate Flipgrid such as professional development, creating home-school connections, and even portfolios. Flipgrid is a limitless platform for you and your students.
