We've always believed in the simple power of the words "thank you" and "great idea". So every day this month FIVE of you will win an all-new Flipgrid VoicePod when you share an idea or give thanks! Hereโ€™s how to enter:

๐Ÿค—Give thanks: Post a video in this Grid (created by Karalee Nakatsuka and Lucretia Anton) thanking a teacher that has impacted you. Grab the link to your video from MyFlipgrid and share it on social using #TeacherAppreciation and #FlipgridFever.

OR

๐Ÿ’กShare an idea: Post a new Topic template in the Flipgrid Disco Library and include integration notes. Once your Topic is approved, share a link to the Topic on social using #TeacherAppreciation and #FlipgridFever.

Full STEAM Ahead with Flipgrid ๐Ÿš‚

GridTip_Jess.jpg

Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics are all quite different, but share a common thread: They all infuse inquiry, problem solving, and making real-world connections in learning!

Here are a few ways to ignite engagement and capture the learning process by adding Flipgrid to your STEAM instruction!

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ง Collaboration: Working with peers is an essential part of STEAM. Flipgrid provides a space for students to collaborate with one another while working through problems, sharing discoveries, and reflecting on learning processes.

๐Ÿ˜ Feedback: A crucial part of inquiry is making corrections to learning. Use Flipgridโ€™s Reply feature to allow students to provide feedback to their peers as they work through an engineering loop of creating and retesting based on results.

๐Ÿค” Design Thinking: The design processes includes planning, prototyping, testing, and reevaluating problems to find innovative solutions. Empathy and experimentation are critical parts of the design process.  Flipgrid is a perfect space to reflect on each of these steps along the way.

๐Ÿฅฝ Investigation: Let students dig into new concepts and skills, explore phenomenon, and reflect on learning and understanding by sharing on Flipgrid.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Showcasing Learning: Students can use Flipgrid to share prior knowledge and then report on their findings after investigations and projects. Share and showcase all the incredible moments happening throughout these learning experiences!

BONUS: Have you heard that Microsoftโ€™s Hacking STEM has launch-ready Disco Library Topics that include full lesson plans? Check out them out here!

If you have mic drop ideas for implementing Flipgrid with STEAM, we would love to hear them. Share with us on Twitter using #FlipgridFever!

See you on the grid! ๐Ÿš€

๐Ÿ’ซ Student Voice Rockstar: Karie Frauenhoffer

KarieFrauenhoffer_Rockstar.jpg

Every child needs a champion, and every educator needs a cheerleader! Karie Frauenhoffer, a 7th Grade ELA & Personalized Learning Lead Teacher, from Kernersville, North Carolina, cheers, uplifts, and amplifies educators around the world. She discovered Flipgrid in April 2017 and has been a leader in the #FlipgridFever community as a Flipgrid Certified Educator, Student Voice Ambassador, and #GridGuide! In May 2018, we had the pleasure of meeting during the first Flipgrid Bus Tour. Her excitement, energy, and passion for creating unique experiences for her students is evident in the quest to learn and share with fellow educators.

โญ๏ธMAGNIFICENT โญ๏ธ is the one word that enters Karieโ€™s mind when she thinks of Flipgrid. We feel the same way about Karie!

Impact
๐Ÿ’•
Flipgrid has allowed me to reach some of my most unreachable kids. It has provided an avenue of communication that students feel comfortable using and even if they aren't showing their faces-- they are sharing their voices and that's what is so important. ๐Ÿ’•

Advice
If at first you don't succeed... ask the #FlipgridFever community and try again. I can not tell you the number of times I have thought of an amazing Flipgrid-infused activity and it didn't go as my brain had dreamed it. I could have easily given up and just stopped trying with Flipgrid -- but, I reached out to this amazing FAMILY of educators and within a mere matter of MINUTES had several solutions to my troubles and an entire cheering squad to ensure I didn't lose the faith. It is so hard when you are first introducing a new tool to students or fellow staff members and their apathy towards newness and change can be disheartening but the #FlipgridFever community is a global force of positivity and support that you really can't go wrong! So, go... DO! Try! And don't worry... we've got you covered :)! ๐Ÿ™Œ
