The following is written by Flipgrid Head of Educator Innovation Jornea Armant Erwin. In this series Jornea will reflect on field trip experiences to amazing schools in the Flipgrid community. Check out the full digest here!
Kristin Merrill, a 4th grade teacher & Joe Merrill, a 1st grade teacher at Lake Park Elementary in Collier Country, Florida are a DYNAMIC DUO. The husband and wife team inspire each other to create meaningful learning experiences that foster collaboration and growth within their students. By pairing up the 4th grade students and 1st grade students as tech buddies, they allow students to serve as mentors for one another. Even the littles teach their big buddies new ideas!
I was able to witness the magic happen during Read Across America Week 2018. Each buddy pair was given the task to create their own Dr. Seuss Character and appsmash Chatterpix and Flipgrid to make their character come to life! Each of the 4C's - Communication, Collaboration, Creativity and Critical Thinking was woven throughout this learning experience! The 1st grade students took their collaboration beyond Lake Park Elementary by connecting with two other classrooms to share a read aloud for the day. What an amazing experience for all students involved!
